Untangle your residence card, bank, and phone setup
Choose where you are now. The checklist shows what to prepare, what can run in parallel, and what to update later.
This is a dependency map, not a mandatory legal order. A provider may offer a limited or different route before the physical card is issued.
Start
Official identity foundation
Confirm the immigration record and keep the document that matches your current stage.
What to have ready
- Valid passport
- Residence card if already issued
- Address evidence used for the relevant procedure
What to have ready
- Passport
- Proof of Korean residence
- Status-specific documents confirmed by HiKorea or 1345
Check first: Do not rely on another person's visa checklist or assume that a bank/phone requirement replaces immigration registration rules.

- Passport
- Original application receipt
- Any collection or delivery notice
Check first: Ask each institution whether it accepts the receipt for the exact service; never state that it must accept it.

- Application receipt or notice if a detail appears wrong
Set up
Bank account
Ask the exact branch what it needs and what the account can do before assuming a universal rule.
What to have ready
- Passport
- Residence card or application receipt if available
- Korean address and contact
- Evidence of employment, study, or transaction purpose if the bank requests it
Check first: Requirements and available features can differ by bank, branch, customer due diligence, status, purpose, and whether the residence card has been issued.

- Passport
- Residence card
- Bankbook/card or account details
- Any purpose document the bank requests
Check first: An issued card does not guarantee automatic removal of every restriction; the bank must complete its own checks.
Set up
Phone number
Compare what is available now, then update the subscriber identity after the residence card is issued when required.
What to have ready
- Passport
- Residence card or application receipt if available
- Payment method the provider accepts
- Korean address/contact if requested
Check first: A passport-only, prepaid, postpaid, eSIM, or MVNO option is not universally available on the same terms. Confirm with the actual provider.

- Passport
- Residence card
- SIM/phone number
- Existing contract or account details
Check first: Do not cancel a working number before confirming whether an update or transfer is possible and what services depend on it.
Connect
Online identity verification
Make the passport, residence record, phone subscription, and service fields match before repeated troubleshooting.
Check first: Do not send full identity numbers through ordinary email, chat, social media, or an unverified support channel.
Keep
Records and help
Keep proof of each setup step and use official complaint channels if a provider cannot resolve a problem.
Take the checklist and documents to the actual institution. A completed checklist does not mean an application or service has been approved.
What this helper includes
Choose whether you have not applied for a residence card, applied and are waiting, received the card, or are fixing an identity mismatch. The checklist then shows what to prepare for immigration, a bank branch, and a phone provider; what may be possible in parallel; what to update after card issuance; and how to troubleshoot online identity records. It does not decide registration eligibility or promise that a bank, branch, carrier, plan, or verification service will accept a document.
How this helper works
- The tool models the setup as a dependency map rather than a universal sequence: create the official identity foundation, ask the bank and phone provider in parallel, align records after card issuance, and then test online verification.
- Four current-stage filters show only relevant tasks: before application, waiting for the card, card issued, and fixing a mismatch. The selected stage is not treated as a visa or legal-status decision.
- Residence-card tasks use Korea Immigration Service and HiKorea guidance. Banking tasks reflect official identity and customer-verification concepts while requiring the actual bank and branch to confirm documents and services.
- Phone tasks require the actual carrier or authorised seller to confirm prepaid/postpaid availability, identity, payment, contract, and update rules instead of presenting one provider's practice as universal.
- Checked items remain in page memory only. The tool reports local progress, offers a print view, and sends only generic tool events without the selected stage or task identifiers.
Assumptions
- The user will use the official term Residence Card while recognizing that older searches and conversations may still call it an Alien Registration Card or ARC.
- The exact immigration document list, deadline, appointment route, fee, and exemption will be confirmed for the user's status through HiKorea, 1345, or the responsible immigration office.
- The bank can request identity, address, contact, tax-residence, beneficial-owner, occupation, source-of-funds, and transaction-purpose information as part of its applicable verification procedures.
- The user will ask the exact branch and provider what is accepted before visiting and will obtain the written contract, limits, fees, and update instructions before paying or canceling an existing service.
- Passport, residence-card, bank, and mobile-subscriber identity fields will be compared exactly before repeated online verification attempts.
Example
A newcomer who has applied for a residence card selects I applied and am waiting. The checklist says to keep the passport, original receipt, and collection instructions; ask the exact bank branch and phone provider what can be opened with the documents currently held; record any service limitations; avoid assuming the receipt equals the issued card; and plan to update both bank and phone identity records after the physical card is received if required.
Limits and cautions
- There is no single bank-phone-residence-card order that works for every status, bank, branch, carrier, MVNO, prepaid/postpaid plan, identity service, age, purpose, or payment method.
- A passport, application receipt, residence card, employment or school letter, address document, bank account, or Korean phone number is not guaranteed to be accepted for every service or feature.
- The checklist does not open accounts, activate a SIM, perform identity verification, store document numbers, recommend a bank or carrier, compare prices, or determine whether a restriction is lawful.
- An issued residence card does not automatically update an existing bank or phone account, remove transaction limits, enable every online service, or correct a name mismatch in another institution's database.
- For an unresolved immigration, financial, telecom, fraud, or consumer dispute, use the responsible institution and official complaint route; this checklist does not replace case-specific assistance.
